JACKSON – World War II veteran Roy Hodges of Tippah County thought he and members of his family, including his wife Rachael, were just taking in the sights when visiting the state Capitol last week before watching both the Pine Grove and Ripley girls in the state basketball tournament. The Ripley Memorial Day program commemorating the soldiers who gave their lives in America’s wars was held at the Ripley Sportsplex May 29, 2017
Ripley Mayor Chris Marsalis welcomed everyone to the observance.
Ripley Boy Scout Troop 38 posted the colors.
Mike Mauldin, Commander of the Ripley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, made the opening remarks
Rickey Hopper, Commander of the Ripley American Legion Post, introduced the speaker.
The featured speaker for the Memorial Day observance was the Rev. Bobby Cook, a Vietnam era veteran who spoke eloquently about those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
A large group of Tippah Countians was present to honor those who gave so much for us and to enjoy a lunch, the proceeds of which will go to the future Tippah County Veterans Memorial Park.
Rev. Jack Bennett offered the closing prayer.
Musical entertainment was provided by the MissOssippi Band composed of L-R Stanley Rolfe, Bailey Eubanks, John Braddock, Rickey Joe Gates and Eddie Rucker.

Ripley Elementary students sing the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful.”
Veterans of the Tippah Tiger SCV camp 868 attended the Dixie Theatre’s production of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” on Veterans Day Saturday night. All Veterans were invited to attend at no cost. During intermission all veterans were recognized and a reception with refreshments were served before going back to see the final act.
